Math for Every Learner in Readtopia and ReadtopiaGO

Building Wings expertly states that math is everywhere, yet it is still too often taught in isolation. It is treated as a separate set of skills, disconnected from how students actually experience the world.

However, when math is woven into literacy, science, and everyday experiences, learning becomes more meaningful.

Educators who are teaching with Readtopia are familiar with the integrated math lessons that allow students to make connections between the anchor literature in each thematic unit, and different math concepts. Students love the math videos, hands-on applications and independent lessons.

Each math lesson has leveled instructional materials that connect basic mathematical concepts with the narrative of the thematic unit. That means educators can support a wide range of student abilities and backgrounds. Integrated math lessons are available in Readtopia only.

For those emergent learners who are still developing their foundational math knowledge, Building Wings has developed Learning Numbers. This research-informed, teacher-led daily routine is designed to strengthen key foundational math skills like:

  • Counting
  • Comparing groups
  • One-to-one correspondence

Learning Numbers is an interactive program for early math learners of all ages available through Readtopia and ReadtopiaGO. Educators use the digital platform with embedded prompts to guide predictable, evidence-based routines, with storybooks, and rhythmic chants reinforcing concepts through language and everyday experiences.

In Learning Numbers, educators follow a five-step instructional routine:

  1. Identify Number Name: Associate the numeral symbol with the spoken number name.
  2. Count Collections: Establish one-to-one correspondence.
  3. Make Collections: Construct a set equal to the target number.
  4. Compare Collections: Understand relative quantity (more, less, same).
  5. Count to Tell How Many: Reinforce cardinality and conservation.

Included tools for educators:

  • Introductory Wizard: Step-by-step guidance to explore features, customize tools, and enable accessibility.
  • Engaging Visuals: Educator-controlled images and animations that reinforce learning.
  • Say-and-Do Guidance: Clear scripts to support accurate instruction, feedback, and modeling.
  • Progress Indicators: Visual cues to help pace lessons, maintain sequence, and ensure completion.
  • Automated Shuffling: Dynamic rearranging of objects to demonstrate quantity conservation.
  • Accessibility Customization: Flexible settings for diverse needs, including visual, auditory, and AAC supports.

Educators may also use the Instructional Companion to prepare materials, and the printable Lesson Template for small groups, flexible schedules, or offline use.
