In 2019, supported by Bridges Professional Learning, 10 classes in Brandon Manitoba consisting of teams of 4 teachers each, implemented curricula for student with complex learning needs (i.e. AAC users, cognitive, sensory challenges, physical disabilities):

  • Readtopia, the comprehensive experiential instructional reading program.
  • Equals math curriculum that connects functional math to abstract ideas.
  • First Author comprehensive writing curriculum that teaches how to write and measures writing progress (introduced this year)

 

So far, despite the pandemic, the Brandon curriculum project has been a wonderful experience and a great success

Responding to the COVID crisis, Widgit is offering free and unrestricted access to Widgit Online and it’s ready-made materials for 30 days.  Parents and teachers at home will be able to create for printing or reading outloud on iPads, Chromebooks or PC's, symbolized visual schedules, calendars, communication boards, worksheets, stories and more.  All with Canadian symbolized vocabulary, in French too!

Preview new reading curriculum for middle to high school students with special needs called Readtopia. Combines documentary videos, texts, literature, graphic novels and direct instruction on decoding and comprehension, created by a team including Karen Erickson, Caroline Musselwhite and Jerry Stemach.
